Richard Paterson

Joe writes;
The Dalmore Masterclass will be a very special evening, and not just because it will be led by Master Blender Richard Paterson, the man that makes The Dalmore so great. We will be the first in this state to taste the limited edition ( only 3,000 bottles produced, likely only 600 for the US) of The Clan MacKenzie bottling, a 17 Y.O. with, unusually for Dalmore, 11 years in bourbon casks and 6 years in Port. It is dedicated to the MacKenzie clan and a portion of its proceeds goes the upkeep of their Castle Leod in Strathpeffer, near Inverness.
We’ll also taste the rare and long sold-out 1973 Gonzales Byass 30 Y.O. I think Federal sold every bottle the state got. The lineup will also include The Dalmore 12 Y.O.,15 Y.O., 18 Y.O., Grand Reserva, and the new King Alexander, a Master Blender’s masterpiece from oloroso, madeira, bourbon, cabernet, port and marsala casks.
You will receive a bottle of The Dalmore 15 Y.O. signed by Richard Paterson (an $89.99 value). You’ll also have first option on the purchase of The limited Clan MacKenzie bottle. One of the best in the whisky world, I’ve always had a great respect for this man. I had the good fortune to see him at Jura Day (Feis Ile 2005) and Richard was was simply brilliant. I’m sure he will be in rare form on the 20th, which you needn’t be an expert to appreciate. There’ll be a story to tell.
Limited Seating, Do not miss out!!! If you have plans for this date CANCEL them!!
We will have some tasty nibbles at the end. A Great event for corporate bonding, or to bring a client, a co-worker or just a friend; or simply come by yourself, but Don’t Miss It.
$124.99 plus tax. (including The Dalmore 15 Y.O. signed by Richard Paterson)
Bottles must be picked up at Federal (Deliveries can be arranged). Website information will be updated shortly.

This is a BenRiach 23 year old single cask, cask strength, peated, sherry finished (PX hogsheads) single malt whiskey. Also, a mouthful.

A bright wildflower honey note rings out initially, deepened somewhat by a touch of demerera sugar. A perfect espresso note comes through under the sweetness, held up by a more subtle dark chocolate. Dandelion then rises to the fore, balancing out the sweetness with a touch of its bitter, grassy flavor. The alcohol is unavoidable but not at all overpowering, nor does it really require any water and its slight burn is welcome as it brings with it the taste of spearmint, its bite harmonizing with the alcohol impeccably. As the flavors develop in the glass and one ponders the subtlety of its peat some roasted peanut notes that have been lurking in the bottom, adding depth, come through. While you lose yourself in the glass you’re transported to a late-night campfire in the forest. Smoldering twigs and burnt marshmallow come through with a broad, mouth-watering foundation of autumn leaves. Suddenly the age of this whisky reveals itself to you in faint hints of leather, tobacco, and macadamia nuts, and its sherry finish manifests as damson plums showing up late to the party but intriguing and welcome.
